come home perry, come home!
for the completely uninitiated (or those too young for disney channel), perry the platypus is a character from hit sitcom cartoon phineas & ferb. his whole bit is that hes a normal pet platypus (as normal as having a pet platypus can be), but hes secretly a secret agent & sneaks off during the day to do awesome spy shit. of course, being young, fixated on spies, & something adjacent to a furry, i thought he was the shit. i would always say he was my favourite, but i think i just didnt want to admit that doofenshmirtz was my actual favourite. for some reason...
regardless, down the line of my childhood, i acquired a stuffy of him for christmas 2012 (this makes him around 14 years old!). ive been told my grandparents had to drive all the way to edmonton (!!!) to go to a disney store to get him. he was my favourite & i loved him to pieces. even later down the line, i was diagnosed with autism & generalised anxiety disorder. it was a little bit after then that i started to carry perry around with me again; as it turns out, hes a really good comfort stuffy! hes nice & square, so hes easy to wrap under an arm or use as a pillow. & hes a nice size, a little bigger than the average hardcover book, so he isnt too difficult to bring out with me. when i was little, i liked to play with his (three!) strands of yarn hair or roll up & unfurl his beaver tail over & over again, which i later learned were stims. he also had a button in his paw (paw? hand?) that if pressed, would make the sound. you know the one. unfortunately, hes older than the average high school underclassman, so the batteries are dead, & i have no intent of cutting into him to replace them anytime soon.
i really think one of the big things about why he brings me so much comfort is that hes a solid anchor. due to my disorders of joy & fun, i can get overwhelmed really easily, & being able to hold him helps me connect to something familiar & not-scary. something like that is really important in moments where i feel out of control & i want to calm down. Thank you Perry...

- i vividly remember having a dream where i had not only my original perry stuffy, but also a stuffy of the cool robo-perry from the second dimension movie. i thought this was real for the longest time, until i realised he probably wouldnt be very huggable... this probably happened because i got my perry the same year the movie came out.
- something about the presence of him in public makes people think they come up to me & pull off a good doofenshmirtz impression. they CANT. NO ONE can do a good doofenshmirtz impression. yet i will have people walk up to me & do this without fail. i dont really care because its funny & rather sweet of them but i tend to feel embarrassed lol
- for around a year or two, i had a pronoun pin clipped to him, but i genuinely cannot remember what pronouns it was for. is perry the platypus a girl...? am i a bad person...?
- people tell me that i should get him a hat, but i dont think he needs one. hes clearly supposed to be petmoding perry, not agentmoding perry. at least to me
