birds & bees & television,

cardboard boxes, x-ray vision!

tallyhall is a rock-adjacent indie band formed in 2002. they hail from ann arbor, michigan (which i've visited!), & are usually recognised by their quirky coloured ties. they've garnered a sizable following online in the past few years, partly due to multiple of their songs resurfacing on tiktok. during their time as a band, they released only two studio albums, & have been on hiatus ever since autumn of 2011. ☆

my history with the hall

i heard my first tallyhall song sometime close after february of 2021. ruler of everything became a meme on youtube around then, & people would edit funny pictures of various characters together set to the second verse of the song. i remember seeing one of these videos that one of my favourite animation memers made (remember animation memes?) & listening to it a ton afterwards.
i'm not quite sure how i got into tallyhall further after that due to my memory being quite poor, but it's a safe bet to guess that i picked songs off of their top streamed list before going & listening to their two albums in full. despite my first official encounter with them being quite recent, my history with them goes back even further than one may think.

for those not in the know, tallyhall wrote & performed music for a children's show from 2007 called happy monster band, which my mother insists she remembers me & my brother watching when we were younger. she told me this before i informed her that all of the songs were tallyhall's doing, so i can be positive that she isn't lying to make me feel cool for watching it (lmao). i could technically brag about having been listening to tallyhall likely since before i could walk, but that feels a little stuck up, don't you think?

stupid decisions i've made because of them

  • completely stopped typing "and". i now exclusively use ampersands
  • changed my username on multiple websites (including artfight, the site i arguably have the largest presence on) to tallyhall, resulting in people recognising me as "the tallyhall guy" instead of for my art or ocs
  • travelled all the way to farmington hills michigan in june of 2024 to visit some Fucking arcade (blogpost on that soon, i promise...)
  • joined a reanimated MAP for good day (will link when it's done)

my collection

my tallyhall shelf as of 1/7/2026. featuring two of the youtooz collectibles, some pictures i took & trinkets i picked up from marvin's (including prize tickets that have "MARVIN'S MMM" printed on them!), a model traincar i was gifted that matches the MMMM colour palette, & my record player (but only because this is the only shelf i have at face level). i also have some tshirts in my possession, but they stay in my closet & often on my torso.

why do i care?

i have never in my life heard another band that looks, sounds, or feels quite the same as tallyhall. the release phase of their first album is the epitome of "college boys messing around & making a band". they have this strange quirky charm that i can never seem to get enough of. they write offcolour love songs, but follow them up with nonsensical yet catchy experimental music. they continue to baffle me beyond means, & i dont ever think i'll fully get them. but i think the most important thing is that tallyhall reminds me is that as long as man will live on, we will continue to create until nothing is left to create.
